Blood and Sandbanks

Inspired by the most beautiful beach in Britain, which happens to be in Dorset!

25ml Black Cow Vodka
25ml Lindesfarne Mead
25ml BOLD Aperitif
25ml Blood orange juice
5ml Laphroaig

Shake and double strain, serve in a chilled coupette

Garnish with dried blood orange slice (if you don't have a dehydrator, dry orange slices in the oven on a low heat).

Islay scotch is an ode to this twisted classic: the Blood and Sand cocktail. Black Cow Vodka and mead represent sand, while blood orange and Bold provide the blood. Flavour-wise, the vodka is gentle, with smooth honey wine meeting cherry and spice, with a seasonally citrus backbone and hint of smoke.

Try pairing with fried Black Cow cheddar in cider batter for an indulgent Easter party treat.

Black Cow cheddar and cider batter

240ml Dorset cider
120g plain flour
1 egg
1 teaspoon turmeric
Black Cow Deluxe Cheddar, cut lengthwise

1. Whisk the cider, flour, egg and turmeric until smooth. The batter should be quite thick.

2. Coat the cheese in the batter and deep fry in sunflower oil until golden brown (less than one minute, be careful with melting cheese!).

3. Drain oil on kitchen paper and serve with Blood and Sandbanks cocktail.
