The Black Cow Cup 2019

Each summer we hold The Black Cow Cup - a cocktail competition, held at our Distillery, Bar + Kitchen in beautiful West Dorset, UK.

Entrants compete in regional heats around the world, with the winners from each final invited to The Black Cow Cup. This year, we will be holding this on Wednesday 4 September and Thursday 5 September 2019.

Our aim is to inspire and encourage the best, most inventive and imaginative mixologists to showcase their work across our social media channels during this two-day event. This year, our competition theme is SYNESTHESIA: SONIC COCKTAILS: IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE, PLAY ON.

The deadline for entries is Sunday 21 July 2019 (and 31 May for US entrants).

SYNESTHESIA: sonic cocktails: if music be the food of love, play on

We have a strong affinity with music rooted in the Black Cow Saloon, our low light, hard drinkin’, foot stompin’ honky tonk that’s resident at Port Eliot Festival.

This year we are challenging bar tenders across the world to design a drink that heightens sensation; engaging smell, taste, texture, sound, sight and memory. We’re interested in the idea of synthesia - the production of a sense or impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.

Our co-founder Archie said: ”We are asking entrants to consider the use of sound when designing their drinks in order to elevate the drinking experience… it may be that you design the consumption of your drink to take place with a sound track, a piece of music or even in complete silence. However you choose to utilise sound to make the drink, whatever your idea, we can’t wait to experience them with you.”

The Stages

Online Applications: Open Wednesday 1 may

Regional Heats: August

The Final: 5 + 6 September

The winner of each final either in the UK or internationally will be invited to participate in The Black Cow Cup grand final. Over the course of the two days, the bartenders will enjoy the Black Cow experience and a stay at Mangerton House nestled in the beautiful West Dorset hills.

The winner of the final will be crowned The Black Cow Cup Champion 2019, awarded with this year’s hand-made Black Cow Cup and presented with $1000 prize money + a year’s supply of Black Cow Vodka.
